Shiraz — this is an exceptionally accomplished and timely novel written in a beautiful and intelligent language. The expression is rich and poetic while carrying complex and emotional material. Zahra is portrayed with with striking precision as a teenager on the threshold between childhood and adulthood, absorbing the tensions and contradictions around her with vulnerability and insight as only teenagers can do. A really memorable piece of writing — hope it gets picked.
